Women’s World Cup 2019: VAR to be used in tournament for first time.
The video assistant referee system will be used at the Women’s World Cup in France this summer, Fifa has confirmed.
It will be the first time VAR has been used at the tournament, having made its debut in the men’s World Cup last year in Russia.

VAR was used at an international level in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in June, where it was praised but its usefulness was questioned after a referee decision in the final match. On 27 September 2018, UEFA announced that from the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League season, VARs will be used in the competition.
